StoryLine:

As the train departs, signs of chaos from the infection reach the station, and an infected woman runs aboard, unnoticed, just before the doors close. She soon turns into a zombie, attacks an attendant, and many crew and passengers are quickly turned into zombies. The remaining passengers secure themselves in the front and rear cars, observing that the infected zombies only attack if they can see them or hear them, but they cannot operate the train’s doors. They learn from news reports of the rapidly-spreading epidemic across the country, and Seok-woo discovers the biotech plant was connected to his business. He uses his connections to try to secure safe travels for Su-an and himself.

The train stops at Daejeon Station, supposedly secured by the South Korean Army. The passengers disembark into a vacant station, but soon find the soldiers have become zombies, who quickly charge the group. Several passengers are attacked and killed as they race back to the train, while most of the surviving ones safely board the front cars.

Brothers Ju Byung-woo and Ju Byung-ki are smugglers in Seoul who find that illegal immigrants have died in a shipping container from an unknown illness. They take sole survivor Monssai and cellphone video of the bodies to show their boss in Budang, but Byung-woo becomes sick and Monssai escapes. At the Contagion Center in Budang, Dr. Kim In-hae is reprimanded for losing important data when her car fell down a mine shaft the previous day. Her bag is retrieved from the shaft by ERT members Kang Ji-goo and Bae Kyung-ub. Ji-goo answers her phone and delivers the bag to In-hae’s daughter Mi-reu.

Byung-woo’s condition worsens and he begins vomiting blood. His brother takes him to an emergency room, where he is isolated with an unknown flu. Called in to help, In-hae finds the cellphone video and theorizes that conditions in the shipping container allowed the virus to mutate. Byung-ki refuses to answer questions about the container. Byung-woo dies, and Byung-ki exposes several of the hospital staff while struggling to get to his brother.

The next day, many more people show pronounced symptoms. With help from the KCDC, the hospital staff locate and incinerate the shipping container. However, rats that had been feeding on the corpses escape into the city. The staff determine that the aggressive virus is a mutated H5N1 strain that can kill within 36 hours, and call to quarantine the city.

Monssai saves Mi-reu from being struck by a car. He then avoids her, aware that he is spreading the illness. Mi-reu calls Ji-goo to help search for the sick man, but they have no success. Rumours of the outbreak spread and people begin to panic. Ji-goo saves a woman who falls from an escalator, and loses sight of Mi-reu.

The story splits up citizens and non-citizens; governance remains, and there’s a growing sense of a divided society, with the poor having to undermine systems to make a living. For all its fun, Space Sweepers is thematic and a reflection of society, but in modern times.

The story changes when the group of junk-collectors (Robot, Tiger Park, Tae-ho, and Captain Jang) finds themselves in the presence of an android named Dorothy. On the news channels, fear is spread that this android is a tool for terrorism, and can cause havoc by exploding at any second. The android appears to be a young girl, so endearing to adults, giving a strange reminder to Monsters Inc when the monsters had no idea how to handle an innocent child.

A character falls into a pool and pretends to drown, forcing another character to jump in and rescue her. Iqbal and Acha end up on the school’s National Science Olympics team with Juna (Syakir Daulay), the best math student, heading for a competition that will help the winners win science scholarships at prestigious universities. Acha uses every trick to be near Iqbal, and when she gets herself and Iqbal in detention, she falls in a swimming pool and pretends she’s drowning. He jumps in to save her and truly start to drown, requiring she pull him out and administer CPR, which looks like a kiss on the video of them that goes viral.
